>>Students, Parents Plan Rally To Support Teachers

(Portland, OR)  --  A rally is planned for this evening to support Portland teachers as negotiations continue with the Portland school district on a new contract.  Students and parents are planning to rally outside the Blanchard Education Service Center on North Dixon Street at 5:30 this evening.  The demonstrators are scheduled to march into the School Board meeting at six p.m.  The main point of contention in the negotiations is reportedly salary.   

>>Police Say Eight-year-old Shot Accidentally

(Gresham, OR)  --  Officials say an eight-year-old boy who was shot at a home in Gresham has undergone successful surgery.  Authorities say the boy was shot in the abdomen Saturday afternoon at the residence on Southeast Marie Street.  Police say the shooting appears to have been accidental.  No other details have been released.

>>WA Legislative Session Convenes Today

(Olympia, WA)  --  Washington state lawmakers will convene today in Olympia for a 60-day session.  The main issue is expected to be transportation, and a renewed push for adding up to eleven-and-a-half cents per gallon to the state's fuel tax is likely.  The revenue would help pay for road maintenance and highway projects across Washington.  Other issues expected to be debated include whether to regulate medical marijuana and whether to eliminate pensions for state employees in favor of 401-k plans.

>>Portland-area Gas Prices Cheaper

(Portland, OR)  --  The price of gasoline in the Portland area is on a downward trend.  Triple-A's latest survey shows the average for regular is just below three-33 a gallon, down about a penny-and-a-half over the past week.  Regular gas sold in Portland a month ago for an average of about three-28 a gallon.
