Portland Teachers Union Calls Strike Vote

(Portland, OR)  --  Educators represented by the Portland Association of Teachers are scheduled to vote next week on whether to authorize strike.  Union leaders informed members of the vote yesterday evening as they remain at odds with the school district in contract negotiations.  Should the teachers vote to authorize a strike, state law requires that the union give ten days' notice to Portland Public Schools before a walkout.  The school district and the union are slated to meet with a mediator tomorrow.
