(Portland, OR) -- Portland Police Chief Mike Reese is asking the City Council for funding that would allow the return of a traffic-enforcement night shift. Reese wants 300-thousand dollars included in the next city budget to restore the shift, which was eliminated in the last budget. Reese says there were 35 traffic-related fatalities in Portland in 2013. He says bringing back the night traffic shift will have a "measurable impact" on restoring public safety.
