Diego Chara struck a Montreal player in the face and given a red card in the 18th minute. That forced Portland to play the remainder of the game with 10 men. Diego Valeri's header scored the lone Portland goal. The Timbers are 5-and-3 and-4 in the MLS. They are in fifth place in the Western Conference with 18 points.
