Frank 'da Count' B.

Frank Bonacquisti started out in Portland radio at 16 years of age. He first went on the radio in Bend in 1977 as "The Count". He has been the morning host for the KBND Morning News from 1990 - 1995 then again 1997 - 2005 and now, back again, for good this time, since 2010. In between he has been on the radio and worked as a professional voice talent, among other things, from Portland to Palm Springs and on the island of Maui. Frank sees himself as the Master of Ceremonies for the Morning News, a fast-paced 4-hour block of full service news and information. Like he'll tell you he's not a newsman, he just plays one on the radio. He's actually a News Personality and has had great success with endorsements for many clients. Frank and "the Countess" married here in Bend in 1978 and they enjoy taking their 3 grandsons out to enjoy the beauty of Central Oregon.

Frank & Paul

Paul Hanson

I was first News Director of KYXI the first 24 hour All News Radio station in Portland from 1976-77. Supervised 57 full and part time staff.

While at the KYXI sister-station, KGON-FM (1974-76)I produced a documentary about ozone depletion which was introduced as evidence to the Oregon Senate Energy & Environment committee. The committee was expected to kill a bill banning aerosol products that contained chlorofluorocarbons on a 3-3-1 vote. Instead the committee voted 7-0 in favor of the bill that was eventually signed into law by then-Governor Bob Straub. The chief sponsor of the bill, State Senator Walt Brown, stated on KYXI All-News Radio, "The KGON report turned the committee around."

Also, at KGON I directed a team that produced a documentary about Marshall "Herf" Applewhite and Bonnie Lou Nettles, who in 1975, convinced 24 Oregonians to "leave everything behind" and follow them to "a higher life plane." The documentary, titled "The Strange Story of The Two" won a "Headliners Award" for Best Documentary from the Atlantic City, NJ Press Club. The "Headliner Award" is the 2nd oldest award in journalism in America.
In 1975, the Associated Press listed the Applewhite-Nettles story as the "#1 Story of the Year" in Oregon.
In the mid 1990's Applewhite convinced 39 members of the cult "Heaven's Gate" to commit suicide in southern California.

In television I was the Political Reporter for KATU-TV, 1978-83.

In early 1980 I researched, wrote, produced and narrated a 5-part series VIETNAM: Bringing It All Back Home."
The first-in-the-nation series focused on the struggles of Vietnam veterans including societal rejection when they came home, the VA's refusal to recognize or pay disability benefits for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and/or exposure to Agent Orange. The series was shown to state lawmakers who in 1981, introduced resolutions urging Congress to take action to help Vietnam veterans.

The 1980 Vietnam series was updated in late 1981 with the hour-long documentary, "The Endless War." That report also shown to state lawmakers during the 1983 session. The legislature passed laws (with funding) to help Vietnam veterans with PTSD and/or Agent Orange exposure issues. As late as 1983 the VA was still rejecting veterans disability benefit claims for PTSD and Agent Orange.

Also, at KATU, in 1982 I wrote and co-produced the most repeated documentary in Oregon history, "A Nice Place To Visit...The Legacy of Tom McCall" which explored the life of the state's most popular governor. Under McCall the state enacted the first-in-the-nation land use planning laws designed to protect farm and timber lands from urban sprawl. Also during McCall's time as governor the state implemented the Bottle Bill, requiring deposits on beer and soft drink containers. The state also declared (and courts upheld) the public's right to be on all beaches from Astoria to the California border. Motel and hotel owners, who wanted beaches closed except for their guests, fought McCall, but lost in court.
