Suspect Arrested in Bend Assault

BEND, OR -- Bend police have arrested a man they say assaulted his girlfriend Thursday morning in southeast Bend.

Detectives tracked 32-year-old Carl Gavic to the Highway 97 rest stop near Shaniko and took him into custody Thursday evening without incident.  Police call him a “continuous traveler” and say he attacked his girlfriend with a switchblade causing several non life threatening injuries. The dispute was reportedly over property, and investigators say he threatened to harm the women and her dog again, before he left the scene.

At the time of his arrest, Gavic was driving a car reported stolen from California. He’s charged with Assault II, Robbery I and Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle. Additional charges could be added as the investigation continues.
