California Woman Injured in Smith Rock Fall

TERREBONNE, OR -- A California woman was rescued following a fall at Smith Rock State Park in Terrebonne, Sunday afternoon. The woman was reportedly trying to climb a near vertical section of rock with her friend when she lost her hold and fell eight to 10 feet, then tumbled another 20 to 30 feet.

Neither woman had appropriate equipment, according to the Sheriff's Office, and it was their first time at Smith Rock.

Search and Rescue volunteers were able to safely get her back to the trail and used a wheeled litter to get her to awaiting medics. She was taken to St. Charles Bend with what is described as serious but not life threatening injuries.
