(Portland, OR) -- A person in Oregon is now legally "non-binary," rather than male or female. In what legal experts believe is a first in the U.S., a judge in Portland approved the change for 52-year-old Jamie Shupe late last week. Shupe is an Army veteran who retired in 2000. Three years ago, Shupe began transitioning from man to woman but realized then that neither male nor female was a fit. Shupe told reporters, "I consider myself a third sex."
