5-Time Bank Robber Gets 7 Years

(Portland, OR)  --  A five-time bank robber is headed to federal prison for seven years.  Eric Smotherman was sentenced yesterday after knocking over four credit unions and a bank last year.  His lawyer says the crime spree sprang from his client's untreated bipolar disorder and a heroin addiction.  The judge recommended that Smotherman be placed in a California prison where he can be treated for his mental problem.
