Man Who Attacked Gay Men Outside Of Bakery Is First To Be Convicted Under New Law

(Portland, OR)  --  A man who attacked gay men outside of a Portland bakery is the first to be convicted under Oregon's new bias crime law.  Fifty-year-old Don Kirchoff faces 15 days of jail and three years of probation.  The new law that increases the penalty for some hate crimes to a felony went into effect in July.  As part of sentencing, Kirchoff is also ordered to stay more than 500 feet away from the bakery where he attacked the men off Northwest 10th Avenue.
