(Portland, OR) -- Prosecutors won't be seeking the death penalty against the man accused of killing two men and injuring another on a MAX train in Portland in 2017. The Multnomah County District Attorney has filed a motion to move forward with an amendment to the charges facing Jeremy Christian. Christian's attorneys filed a motion earlier this month to change his charges from "aggravated" to "first-degree" murder and attempted murder. The change would take capital punishment off the table as a sentencing option. Christian is accused of stabbing Taliesin Namkai-Meche and Ricky Best to death and injuring Micah Fletcher on a MAX train after they stood up for two women whom Christian was verbally assaulting.
