George Washington Statue Pulled Down In NE Portland

(Portland, OR)  --  Protesters have toppled a statue of George Washington in northeast Portland.  KATU-2 reports around 30 to 40 people gathered at the bronze statue on the lawn of the German American Society around 10 o'clock last night and pulled it down.  George Washington was the nation's first president and also a slave owner.  Protesters have been pulling down statues of slave owners and Confederate figures across the U.S. and in Europe amid ongoing protests following the Memorial Day death of George Floyd, a black man who died after a white officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes in Minneapolis.
