(Portland, OR) -- City Council is approving a one-year extension of the Portland police union contract. Councilmembers voted unanimously yesterday to extend the contract, postponing a two-point-nine-percent cost-of-living adjustment until July of next year. Mayor Ted Wheeler and city commissioners say the extension gives them time to organize city-hosted public bargaining sessions starting in July for the next contract, and gives labor negotiators more time to figure out what new accountability measures need to be added.
