Wheeler Blasts Trump Administration For Federal Officers' Actions Against Protesters

(Portland, OR)  --  Mayor Ted Wheeler is blasting the Trump administration for the actions of federal officers during protests in Portland.  Wheeler spoke on CNN yesterday, saying federal officers are literally scooping protesters off the streets into unmarked vans, denying them probable cause and due process.  The mayor added that violence and vandalism during protests were "way down" before federal officers arrived and escalated tensions.  Wheeler says he's afraid the actions of federal troopers will lead to somebody getting killed.  Federal officers backed by an executive order protecting monuments started cracking down on protests in Portland last week, using riot control measures and hauling people off the streets in unmarked vehicles.  Protesters in Portland have been demonstrating against police brutality and systemic racism in law enforcement since the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis in late May.
