(Portland, OR) -- The NAACP says it's now participating in a discussion involving a possible new location for Trader Joe's in Northeast Portland. NAACP Portland chapter head Doctor Audrey Terrell says the organization is interested in affordable housing in the area and projected economic impact on the neighborhood. Trader Joe's recently scrapped plans to build on a vacant lot in Northeast Portland after negative feedback from many members of the community. Mayor Charlie Hales has come out in support of building a Trader Joe's on the site and has called for adding 20-million dollars for low-income housing along Northeast MLK Boulevard.
