Kentucky Derby Winner Medina Spirit Disqualified

(Louisville, KY) -- Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit is being disqualified for a drug violation. Trainer Bob Baffert's horse was the first to the cross the finish line last May, but tested positive for an anti-inflammatory steroid that's banned on race days in Kentucky. This is the second time in the 147 year history of the Derby that a horse has been disqualified for a drug-related offense. Churchill Downs released a statement recognizing Mandaloun as the winner of last year's Derby. They congratulated the owner of the horse, jockey and trainer and said they look forward to celebrating the horse on a future date.
