Elks Sweep, Timbers Win, Trail Blazers Finish Summer League

NBA:

The Trail Blazers finished Summer League this weekend, maybe fittingly playing against the Miami Heat. That’s supposed to be the team Damian Lillard could get traded to if a deal can work out. The Blazers lost to the Heat finishing Summer League at 4 and 2; nobody got seriously injured…and Michael Devoe played well at guard for Portland.

College Athletics:

Oregon State Football received a commitment Saturday to its 2024 team from an Offensive Lineman out of Hawaii.

MLB:

The Giants beat Pittsburgh 8 to 4 in 10 innings yesterday to get the sweep of the Pirates. San Francisco has won 5 in a row, and is in 2nd place, 1.5 games behind the Dodgers. The Giants are in Cincinnati today to face a Reds team which just gave up the NL Central lead.

The Seattle Mariners beat Detroit 2 to 0. The Shutout win salvaged the series. Bryce Miller picked up his 6th Win going 5 innings. Paul Sewald got his 18th Save. The Ms are back to .500 at 46 and 46. They welcome AL Central-leading Minnesota tonight. First pitch is at 6:40

Soccer:

The Timbers beat Columbus  3 to 2, getting their first win in 6 matches. At Saturday’s game, Timbers legend Diego Valeri was honored and enshrined in the Ring Of Honor at Providence park. Valeri signed a 1 day contract on Friday so he could retire as a Timber. He transferred in 2021 to his favorite Argentinian team. Valeri was a part of the Timbers 2015 MLS Cup team and was MLS MVP in 2017.

Local:

The Bend Elks beat Port Angeles 13 to 2 yesterday on only 4 hits but 14 walks. The Elks got the sweep of the Lefties to run the second half record to 6 and 3, and overall record to 18 and 18. Bend is at Wenatchee tonight to play an Applesox team who have been having a good season but have lost 3 in a row. First pitch is at 6:35.
