Elks Win Series, Pac 12 ADs Hopeful On TV Deal

College Football:

Pac 12 athletic directors expressed hope that the conference would soon be securing a new media rights contract.  Oregon’s A.D. Rob Mullens told reporters the TV deal was 'critical'. Mullens also called the U of O a proud member of the Pac 12. Oregon is one of the school’s rumored to also be looking at leaving the conference. Maybe following UCLA and USC to the Big 10.

MLB:

San Francisco lost to the Nationals 6 to 1 yesterday. It was a rough sweep for the Giants who only scored 5 runs in the series. They’re tied with Arizona four games behind L.A. in the West. Today the Giants are in Detroit for a make-up game from earlier in the season. First Pitch is at 10:10 this morning.

Seattle lost 4 to 3 to the Blue Jays yesterday. No sweep for the Ms but they did win the series over Toronto to stay a game above .500. Now in a scheduling quirk, the Mariners face the Twins again, like last week, this time for a 3 game series in Minnesota. First Pitch against the AL Central leaders is at 4:40 today.

With the trade deadline approaching August 1st there are many rumors floating about players on the move. The Giants look to be buyers. There’s talk of them checking into pitcher Justin Verlander from the Mets if they continue to struggle this week. The Mariners, likely sellers, could part with Closer Paul Sewald.

Soccer:

The Thorns play Angel City in their next NWSL Cup match on Saturday, after easily outscoring San Diego Friday. …The Portland Thorns Sophia Smith scored 2 goals for the Women’s National Team in their World Cup opener against Vietnam on Friday.

The Timbers face Tigres UANL from Liga MX on Wednesday night after beating San Jose in Group stage play of the Leagues Cup on Saturday.

Local:

The Elks lost 5 to 2 to Portland last night, not completing the sweep but winning the series against the Pickles. The win keeping Bend right ahead of them in the South Division in the second half standings. Next up is a trip to Walla Walla for a three-game mid-week series against the Sweets starting tomorrow night.
