Elks Fall To Sweets, Pickleball PNW Classic Begins, Seahawks Start Training Camp

College Football:

The Pac 12 is considering moving to an eight game conference schedule next season. A report says a committee of four athletic directors is exploring the idea of cutting a match up with a conference opponent, whether or not they expand following UCLA and USC’s departure next season. Another game would be scheduled with a non-conference school at some point in the season.

NFL:
The Seattle Seahawks Training Camp begins today. They’re one of the more intriguing teams in the NFL after making a surprise run to the playoffs last season following the trade of quarterback Russell Wilson. The 2022 Comeback player of the year QB Geno Smith will have a lot of weapons to work with on offense. Seattle’s Defense looks to be upgraded also. They do look to be playing a tougher schedule than last year though.

MLB:

San Francisco got past Oakland 2 to 1 last night on a Mike Yastzremski 8th inning go-ahead double. The Giants stopped their six game losing streak but still only managed four hits. SF keeps even with Arizona and 3.5 behind the Dodgers. Game two against the A’s is tonight. First Pitch at 6:45.

The Mariners completed the comeback in Minnesota yesterday, scoring seven runs combined in the 8th and 9th innings to win 9 to 7. Paul Sewald earned his 20th save. Julio Rodriguez hit two homeruns. Seattle is a game over .500 at 51 and 50. They can get the series win on a Game 3 get-away day. First Pitch is at 10:10 this morning.

Soccer:

The Timbers face Tigres from Liga MX tonight in match two of Group stage play of the Leagues Cup. Portland has 3 points after Saturday’s win. Tigres have a four match unbeaten streak. Game time is 8 pm from Providence Park.

Local:

The Elks lost 6 to 2 to Walla Walla last night. Bend matched the Sweets with eight hits but couldn’t do much with runners in scoring position…. Game two starts at 6:35 tonight.

Hundreds of Pickleball players of all ages will be competing for part of a $34,000 cash purse in the Pacific Northwest Classic at the Pine Nursery Courts starting today through Sunday.
