College Football:
Oregon State camp begins today. Beavers on national awards watchlists include running back Damien Martinez on the Maxwell list for most outstanding player… Defensive back Kitan Oladapo is up for the Nagurski award for best defensive player. Offensive linemen Joshua Gray and Taliese Fuaga have been named to the Outland Trophy list for best interior lineman. OSU’s season kicks off September 3rd at San Jose State
Yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon Oregon opened camp. Second year coach Dan Lanning said they have a lot to work on with the experienced players needing to help the true Freshman and transfers. The Ducks open the season September 2nd against Portland State.
MLB:
San Francisco rallied to beat the Diamondbacks 4 to 2 last night with JD Davis hitting a 2 run double, and scoring a run. Win number 60 of the season puts the 2nd place Giants two games behind L-A and stretches the lead to 3 over Arizona. They have a one game lead in the NL Wild card. The Mariners came back to beat Boston 6 to 3 yesterday for their fourth straight series win. Eugenio Saurez stayed hot, going 3 for 4, knocking in one, and scoring a run… Seattle is a half game ahead of the Angels for third in the AL West. The Ms are in Anaheim for a series starting tonight. Bryan Woo is on the mound for the Mariners against Shohei Ohtani. First pitch is at 6:35.
Soccer:
The Portland Timbers acquired Antony, a Brazilian winger at the opening of the international transfer window. He scored 8 goals in 63 appearances for his pro team in Portugal. Portland hopes the attacker can help them get back into playoff contention in the MLS. Next match for the Timbers is Thursday night against Monterey in the round of 32 knock-out stage of the League’s Cup.
Local:
The Elks lost 6 to 4 to Springfield last night. Bend got down early and couldn’t muster a comeback again. They’ll go for the series win tonight and try to keep their division lead over the Drifters. First pitch from Vince Genna is at 6:35.
