Blazers Season Opener, Duck Defender Honored

College Football:  

U of O Defensive end Matayo Uiagalelei has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for his performance in Oregon's win over Washington State. Uiagalelei led the Ducks with two tackles for loss while getting his first career sack against the Cougars. 

Reports say Running Back Bucky Irving was participating in practice yesterday. Irving briefly left the game to get checked out after being shaken up on a play but did return.

Number 8 Oregon is in Salt Lake City this Saturday for a big matchup with 13th ranked Utah. Hear from Coach Dan Lanning during the Ducks Coaches show tonight at 7:05 here on KBND.

Number 11 Oregon State is at Arizona this Saturday Night. Oregon State football head coach Jonathan Smith is one of 20 on the initial watch list for the Dodd Trophy. The award is given annually to the nation's top collegiate head coach. It’s Smith’s second time making a coaching watchlist this season.

A Yahoo Sports report says Oregon State and Washington State are expected to be a two-member conference next season and the schools have reached out to the Mountain West about a "scheduling alliance"

Basketball:

NBA- The Trail Blazers season opener is tonight. The new look Blazers will have one of the youngest teams in the league, and aren’t expected to be much of a contender in a deep Western Conference. Still 3rd overall draft pick Scoot Henderson will have a lot of eyes on him as Portland begins its first season in 11 years without Damian Lillard. Tip-off in Los Angeles against the Clippers is at 7:30 tonight.
