>>Ahead Of The Bell 

(New York, NY)  --  The opening bell rings this morning after stocks closed lower yesterday.  At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 66 points to 50-121.  The S&P 500 dropped less than a point to 69-41.  The Nasdaq fell 36 points to 23-066.

 

>>January Jobs Report Shows Unexpected Growth

(Undated)  --  Job growth has been stronger than expected to start the year.  The latest jobs report showed the U.S. economy added 130-thousand jobs in January, which is well above analysts' expectation of around 55-thousand. The unemployment rate landed at four-point-three-percent, which is down from four-point-four in December.  The report would have been released last Friday, but was delayed because of the partial government shutdown that ended last week.  We'll be getting a look today at weekly jobless claims, with a slight drop expected.  

 

>>Social Media Lawsuit Testimony Continues

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  A landmark trial over whether or not social media is intentionally addictive is starting to hear from major tech bosses.  Instagram head Adam Mosseri took the stand Wednesday in Los Angeles.  He's the first tech executive to testify with Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg scheduled to do so next week.  The plaintiff argues the companies are causing mental health problems on a large scale.  The Northern California woman who is suing has already settled out of court with Snap and TikTok.  The case is being watched closely because it's seen as a test case by hundreds of similar lawsuits that are still pending.  

 

>>NYC Nurses Ratify New Agreement, To Return To Work

(New York, NY)  --  Thousands of New York City nurses are heading back to work this weekend.  Nurses at Mount Sinai and Montefiore voted Wednesday to ratify their new contracts, ending a five-week strike for about ten-thousand nurses.  The union says they got part of what they wanted when it comes to better pay and more safe staffing levels.  Those nurses will start to return to work on Saturday.  Meanwhile, thousands of nurses with New York-Presbyterian remain on strike, saying their concerns have not been resolved.

 

>>Disney Strikes Multi-Year Deal With Sky UK

(London)  --  Disney has struck a deal with British telecom giant Sky UK.  The international partnership is a multi-year deal that will integrate Disney Plus on Sky, and will include the launch of the Disney Cinema linear channel which will feature dozens of movies in its first month.  A Disney spokesperson says the UK is now one of its largest markets.  

 

>>Samsung Hosts Galaxy Unpacked Feb. 25

(Suwon, South Korea)  --  Samsung is announcing its latest Galaxy smartphone this month.  The company will be hosting the Galaxy Unpacked event where it will unveil the new Galaxy S26 series and new updates to Galaxy AI.  The event is set for 1 p.m. Eastern February 25th and can be watched on Samsung's YouTube channel or at Samsung.com.

 

>>Kraft Heinz Puts Planned Breakup On Hold

(New York, NY)  --  Kraft Heinz is having second thoughts about splitting up the company.  The multinational food corporation announced plans back in September to essentially reverse the merger of Kraft Foods and the H.J. Heinz company, due to falling sales.  On Wednesday, Kraft Heinz said the planned breakup was now on hold.  New CEO Steve Cahillane [[ K-huh-lane ]] said in a statement that many of the company's issues are "fixable," and that it would be "prudent" to pause the separation.  He said the company instead plans to invest 600-million dollars to fuel a turnaround of its U.S. business.
