Stocks fell Friday after a strong August jobs report raised the odds of a Federal Reserve rate hike. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 271 points to 53-414. The S&P 500 fell 29 points to 77-18. The Nasdaq dropped 77 points to 26-506. Markets were closed Monday for the Labor Day holiday.

(Ottawa) -- Canada's new tariffs on billions of dollars in American goods are now in effect, escalating the trade fight with the U.S. The tariffs kicked in just after midnight and range from 15 to 50 percent, covering some 27 billion dollars in U.S. imports. They target products including steel, dairy, appliances, farm equipment, electronics and paper products. Canada says the tariffs are in response to the 50-percent duties imposed by President Trump on Canadian goods. The move comes as tensions between President Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney continue to rise, with trade talks stalled.

(Undated) -- A German startup says satellite deployments will rapidly expand following the first orbital launch of its privately-developed Spectrum rocket from a Norwegian spaceport in the Arctic Circle. Isar [[ Ee-zar ]] Aerospace's uncrewed space rocket helped achieve a milestone over the weekend for Europe's efforts to secure independent access to space, as it became the first commercial rocket to reach orbit from continental Europe. Spectrum carried five small satellites along with an in-flight technology experiment. This comes 18 months after Isar's first rocket dropped into the sea and exploded after blasting off from the same site.
