Ponderosa Park off of 15th Street and Wilson AVenue just opened a new fully-fenced area with grass to small dogs.

There have been examples of dogs being injured or killed by other dogs at area parks, but  Jan Taylor with Bend Parks and Rec says there are other reasons to separate big and small dogs.

"You know I don't know about safety as much as pure enjoyment, because big dogs can be a little rough.  So now these smaller dogs won't have to be in competition with 'em"

There is also a small dog off leash area at Riverbend Park and they are currenlty building one at Pine Nursery Park.  That one is expected to open this fall.
