Bend Man Killed in Log Truck Collision

SANDY, OR -- Oregon State Police released the name of the man killed in a Friday morning crash near Sandy.  According to OSP, 22-year old Michael E. Eberitzsch was eastbound on Highway 26 when his car veered into oncoming traffic for an unknown reason.  His 2014 Hyundai struck a Kenworth log truck head-on.  The impact sent a wheel from the log truck into another semi, causing another accident.  Eberitzsch was pronounced dead at the scene.  Neither semi driver was injured.

OSP Lt. Josh Brooks tells KBND News speed and alcohol are potential factors in the crash. Police are still unsure if exhaustion also contributed.  "It's early to tell, and the investigation will vet some of that out," Brooks says. "Troopers out there on the scene this morning were focusing on the data they could recover from reconstruction."

The accidents caused severe delays for commuter traffic.  Lt. Brooks says both directions of Hwy 26 were closed from 3:30 - 8:45 a.m.  The investigation is ongoing.
