PORTLAND, OR -- Wait Times in the Portland VA Healthcare System are getting better.  Last year we had one of the nation's worst wait times for veterans, but the Portland VA has added doctors and reduced those times.

Kelly Roesch with the Portland VA told KBND News, "Currently our average new patient wait time is 28 days previously it was 60 days.  We've done a lot of work to get a numer to a manageable level so they can see their providers."

The Portland VA had 40 providers openings last year, but they have since filled 25 of those positions.  More doctors mean shorter wait times, though they still are in need of more primary care physicians and certain specialities.
