BEND, OR -- The number of senior citizens in Oregon is growing, and Deschutes County is leading the way. Newly released census bureau statistics found those 65 and older grew by 18% in the state, between July 2010 and July 2014. Nationally, that number was up 14%

Deschutes County had the biggest increase of 31%, followed by Clackamas and Washington counties. Although Bend is a retirement destination, officials say most of the growth comes from people who already live here.
