Bend Couple Lost Near Horse Lake

ELK LAKE, OR -- A Bend couple spent more than five hours lost near Horse Lake, Tuesday. Deschutes County Search and Rescue got their first call from 69-year-old Jeanne Larson at about 5 p.m.  She told dispatchers she and her husband, Kurt, were fine, but needed directions back to the Elk Lake Trailhead.

Due to poor cell phone reception, further information was difficult. Eventually they were able to indicate they would await help at the intersection of Horse Lake Creek Trail and Red Hill Trail.

After a four-mile hike, the SAR team located the couple just after 8:30. They arrived back at the Elk Lake Trailhead at about 10:30 p.m.
