Redmond School Board with Sudden Vacancy

REDMOND, OR -- One of the newest members of the Redmond School Board submitted her resignation this week. Rhonda Etnire, who is also the manager of the Redmond Fred Meyer, has accepted a new position with the store in Boise.

Etnire was appointed to the board in January, to replace Ron Munkres, and was elected to the post in May. Superintendent Mike McIntosh acknowledges the seat has had a lot of turnover. "What we suffer from, is getting good people with active and busy lives. In Ron’s case, he had the opportunity to move out of state and pursue a whole different avocation. And in Rhonda’s case, she is a very successful business leader in our community at Fred Meyer and so she has opportunity to go serve in a different capacity out of state. We are certainly obliged to wish them well, and say ‘good luck with that,’ and we’ll do our best to replace them."

The rest of the board will select Etnire's replacement to serve out the remaining two years of her term. McIntosh tells KBND, the ideal candidate would be "Someone that loves kids, when you have someone who kids’ interest at the top of their list, than the decisions the board makes, make a ton of sense. Someone who has the capacity to devote some time, certainly in the spring of the year when we go through budgets and other annual business. We also would like them to be modern in the sense that they have a current perspective on what demands on education are out there."

Applications for Etnire's replacement will be accepted until September 11; McIntosh hopes the new person will be in place by later this fall.
