Two Weekend Fires Blamed on Cigarettes

BEND, OR -- Bend Fire investigators blame improperly disposed of cigarettes for two deck fires, over the weekend. The first was spotted Friday by a neighbor on NW Fifth St.

Then, 6:17 Sunday morning, a passerby saw flames coming from a deck on Sierra Drive, near Boyd Acres Road. No one was home at the time and the passerby immediately called 9-1-1.

The Fire Department credits the quick response of those witnesses and fire crews for preventing both fires from spreading to the homes.
