Sunday Crash Briefly Closes Santiam Pass

SISTERS, OR -- At least four people were seriously injured in a two-car crash just west of Hoodoo, Sunday afternoon. According to Oregon State Police, 31-year-old Kara Smith of Redmond was eastbound on Highway 20 at about 2:30 p.m. when she lost control on a curve, crossed the center line and hit a car driven by 73-year-old Gail Hayes of Salem.

Two children in Smith’s car were flown to St. Charles Bend and two adults were taken by ground ambulance. The highway was closed in both directions for a short time while emergency crews responded to the scene.

Troopers say the highway was wet, although the cause of the crash is under investigation.
