Free Garden Advice Available This Weekend

REDMOND, OR -- If gardening in Central Oregon is a challenge for you, expert help is available at the Central Oregon Builders Association Home and Garden Show. Vickie Minor is an OSU Extension Service Master Gardner. “In Central Oregon, it is very challenging to garden here because we are digging in volcanic ash. We have maybe 10 good days during the summer where we don’t have the potential for temperatures to dip below 32.”

Master Gardeners take a 10-week course in the winter to earn their credentials. Minor and her colleagues will answer questions and teach free classes during this weekend's event. “People can stop by and ask us any question that they want to ask us about gardening in Central Oregon. What can they plant? When should they put things in the ground? How should they take care of them?”

The COBA Home and Garden Show takes place at the Deschutes County Expo Center in Redmond, Friday through Sunday.
