Oregon Jobless Rate Drops To Record Low

SALEM, OR -- Statewide unemployment in Oregon hit an all-time low, last month. "January's unemployment rate was 4.3%; that's a drop from 4.5% in December," says Employment Department Economist Nick Beleicicks. He adds that it's a record low, "As far as comparable records go back, which is 1976."

Beleicicks says, "Over the year, Oregon’s job growth has been 2.4%. We’ve added 43,200 jobs over the past 12 months. That's good growth, but it's not as fast as the growth we were seeing early last year, when jobs were being added at 3% over the year."

Most new jobs were added in the construction and retail sectors. Health care, social services and the government lost the most jobs.
