Shortly after midnight a car driven by 27-year-old Michael Kutschara sheared off a power pole on Highway 20 near Dayton Road. A sheriff's deputy had observed the black Dodge Challenger earlier, speeding down the highway at over 100 miles an hour. Although the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle the driver sped away.  The deputy then came upon the car which had crashed into the power pole and had caught fire. The driver made it out under his own power and was taken to St. Charles where he was cited and released. No one else was in the car. Kutschara was arrested for DUII, Reckless Driving and other charges. Power was out in the Tumalo area for several hours before it was restored around 5 this morning.
