Crews Gain Ground On Grizzly Fire

PRINEVILLE, OR -- Crews continue to extinguish hot spots and smoldering areas throughout the Grizzly Fire, nine miles northwest of Prineville. It’s now estimated at 195 acres, and as of Thursday morning, is 75% contained. Firefighters hope for 95% containment by the evening.

As hot temperatures, low humidity and a Red Flag Warning continue Thursday, crews will patrol and mop up through the weekend. The incident management team expects to transfer command back to the local unit with the Central Oregon District of the Oregon Department of Forestry by Thursday evening.

The blaze was first reported Monday afternoon near Grizzly Mountain Road and quickly spread in hot and dry weather. Firefighters continue to focus on areas around private homes. So far, no structures have been lost.
