More Prescribed Burns Planned for Monday

BEND, OR -- Firefighters plan more prescribed burns Monday, after two others were conducted over the weekend. Ignitions are planned for two miles southwest of Sisters, later this morning. The operation could lead to brief trail closures along the Metolius-Windogo Trail, north of Cow Camp.

 

Crews also plan to ignite a 286-acre unit south of Bend, adjacent to Lost Tracks Golf Course and China Hat Road. The Deschutes National Forest is partnering with Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for the operation, which is designed to improve wildlife habitat. 

 

Both operations should begin around 10 a.m. are expected to send smoke in to the area. 

 

UPDATE: If conditions remain favorable on Tuesday, crews will ignite 234 acres west of Bend, within the Phil's Trailhead system. It includes a portion of Marvin's Garden, which will likely close for a few days while firefighters cool hot spots. Also Tuesday, they continue working an operation on the Sisters Ranger District, about 2.5 miles southwest of Sisters.
