Cultus Lake Boaters Help Rescue Injured Woman

SUNRIVER, OR -- A pair of recreational boaters helped rescue an injured woman, over the weekend, after Deschutes County Marine Deputies experienced mechanical difficulties. The Sheriff's office says 58-year-old Katheryn Rodgers fell from her horse on the Deer Lake Trail, Sunday evening. She was on the opposite side of Cultus Lake from the boat launch and sustained serious injuries.

Search and Rescue responded with deputies, and determined the best access was by boat. They stabilized the woman and got her to the shore. When the deputies’ boat failed, Justin Zink, of Bend, and Ryan Lewis, of Portland, ferried Rodgers across the lake, where Sunriver Fire and Rescue was waiting. She was taken to St. Charles Bend with non-life threatening injuries.

Zink then helped tow the marine patrol boat to the other side of the lake.
