SMITH ROCK, OR -- Deschutes County Search and Rescue personnel spent about eight hours rescuing a hiker who fell while climbing at Smith Rock State Park on Friday. The Sheriff's Office said the rescue began just before 4 p.m. Friday, and they were able to get 23-year-old Ian Rapp to a Life Flight helicopter by midnight. Authorities said Rapp was transported to St. Charles Medical Center with serious injuries. Medics reached Rapp around 6:15 p.m. Police say he was in an area where climbers normally wouldn't go. It was determined Rapp fell from an area of loose and unstable rock about 150 feet.
