BEND, OR -- The Bend Park and Recreation District will start a 78-acre prescribed fire at Shevlin Park west of Bend tomorrow. The park will be closed for the day. The park district is using prescribed fire as part of a vegetation management plan that was launched two years ago. In that time prescribed fire has been applied to 150 acres at Shevlin Park. The prescribed fire area will be located in two areas. A 56-acre unit is in a newly expanded portion of the park that was a former tree farm. In addition, 22 acres in the Fremont Meadow area on the other side of Tumalo Creek will be burned.
