A Strong winter storm has shut down three mountain highways, caused several accidents and a quite a bit of traffic around Central Oregon. Meteorologist Scott Elnas of Central Oregon Daily reports that a bomb cyclone (when there is a drop of 24 millinars in 24 hours) is dumping snow in the higher elevations with lower totals around Bend. ODOT says to expect delays and poor driving conditions through Wednesday. US 97 North was temporarily shut down near Colorado due to a crash but has since been reopened. Travel is treacherous on more than a dozen highways but especially around the Southern I-5 corridor where witeout conditions have been reported. ODOT urges drivers to use caution and avoid driving if at all possible.
