MADRAS, OREGON -- Black ice and fog contributed to a 9 vehicle wreck 3-miles north of Madras on Highway 26 just after 8-yesterday morning. It was dark before the highway reopened. The incident involved six cars and three truck trailer rigs in what state police call a chain reaction type collision. The driver of a jet fuel tanker truck that overturned was helped out of the rig by firefighters just as the truck caught fire. Crews then used extinguishers to keep the fire from spreading until more firefighters arrived. Two people were hospitalized at Saint Charles Madras after the wrecks. No citations were issued.
