Redmond Increases Fines For Illegal Fireworks Use & Possession

REDMOND, OR -- Last month the Redmond City Council approved a change to the 1998 fireworks code. The new ordinance takes effect tomorrow, January 1st. The use of illegal fireworks will then carry a 500-dollar fine. Repeat offenders can be fined up to 25-hundred dollars and/or six months in jail. Under the old 1998 ordinance the fine was 100-dollars. Redmond Police say in the last four years they have received an average of 136 fireworks related calls for service per year, most for use and possession of illegal fireworks.
