Redmond Hiker Injured When Holstered Gun Discharges

REDMOND, OR -- A man accidentally shot himself while hiking yesterday. Deschutes County Deputies and Redmond Paramedics responded to an area east of Buckhorn Road in response to a hiker with a gunshot wound about 1:30pm. Twenty four-year-old Chad Gatley of Redmond was scouting mountain biking trails with a friend, when his pistol accidentally discharged in its holster—firing a round into his leg. Deputies decided the injury was serious enough to bring in ground and air resources, but ultimately the victim was transported out by ambulance. He was taken to St. Charles Health where he was in stable condition as of last night.
