Bend Police Warn Of Scam Kidnapping Calls

BEND, OR -- Bend Police say they’ve received numerous calls of a fake kidnapping of a child to try to get ransom money.  The scammers are believed to use social media or public information websites to do research. The scammers are calling from outside the country and provide information on the child or the city.  Police say scammers will actually use the child’s name to convince the person it is a real kidnapping. They demand money through a money wire or gift cards. If you get a scam call, police say text the child to verify where they are and not in danger and report the incident to police.
