BEND, OR -- Bend High School is closed today (Monday) after an explosion at a transformer station outside the school caused damage to the electrical switching room. That was just one of the incidents blamed on high winds in excess of 50 miles-an-hour throughout Central Oregon yesterday. The gusts felled trees in Prineville, Madras, Culver and several spots in Bend. In some cases, trees pulled down power lines causing electricity to be knocked out to almost 3,000 PP&L customers in Bend.
