The Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests are offering free permits until the end of November for people who want to collect native plants and mushrooms for their own personal use. Information Officer Cassidy Kern says people who collect plants or mushrooms are asked to download and possess, either digitally or in paper form, a copy of the Best Management Harvesting Practices. She says the form is free and available at Deschutes or Ochoco Forest websites. Kern says people who gather plants or mushrooms to sell must get a commercial permit.
