On Wednesday, April 6, the Bend City Council will hold a work session to discuss proposed code amendments for shelters. The code amendments are aimed at increasing the availability of shelter beds using updated standards for group, multi-room and outdoor shelters. The Council and community will be able to review the proposed code amendments and hear recommendations from the Bend Planning Commission. The work session will take place at 5 p.m. with a separate meeting for public comment May 4^th. The proposed “Shelter Code,” was developed by the City manager-appointed Sounding Board to House Our Neighbors as a strategy to allow varying shelters and transitional options Citywide. It includes recommendations for three types of permanent shelters, and two types of temporary shelters.
