Governor Kitzhaber Declares Drought Emergencies in Four Southern Oregon Counties

Klamath, Lake, Harney and Malheur counties are experiencing one of the worst droughts in recorded history.

Snowpack in the Klamath Basin is only about 20 percent normal and will not be resolved with substantial snow and rainfall.

The Governor says irrigators, ranchers, fisheries and communities are under severe stress from both water shortages and the risk of wildfires.

Through the declaration, the Governor hopes all the possible tools will be available to Oregon communities and businesses that need them.
