High School Sports

We start with High School football where just two local teams are left standing in the OSAA Playoffs.

Top-ranked Summit got a first half scare from Crater, but exploded in the second half for 27-points and held the Comets scoreless enroute to a 50-21 first round win. The Storm will host Dallas Friday night in the Quarterfinals.

Meantime, Redmond went on the road and upset 3rd ranked Silverton on the Silver Foxes home turf, 35-27. The Panthers advance to the Quarters and will hit the road again to face Central High in Independence.

Elsewhere, Mt. View was knocked out of the playoffs losing at Ashland,
30-to-7, and Sisters bowed out of the 4-A Playoffs with a 26-6 loss at 5th ranked Estacada.

Indoors, there were two local teams crowned State Champions in Volleyball as the Bend Lava Bears blanked Lebanon, 3-zip, to claim the 5-A Title after beating top-ranked Marist in the Semifinals. It’s the first State Volleyball Title in school history for the Lady Lava Bears coached by Kristin Cooper.

And, Sisters won their second class 4-A Title in the last 3 seasons as the Outlaws defeated Crook County, 3-1, to win the State crown.

Back outdoors…the State Soccer semifinals are tomorrow and Summit’s boys travel to Woodburn while Madras hosts Brookings. On the girls side, Summit greets Silverton under the lights at 5pm.

Summit's girls won the 5-A State Cross Country Championship, the Summit boys finished runner-up and Bend placed 6th.
