The madness that makes March what it is on the maple courts has begun.

The first round of the OSAA boys 6A basketball playoffs last night saw second-ranked Summit remain undefeated while both Mt. View and Bend were sadly eliminated.

The Cougars lost at Lake Oswego, 59-42 and the Lava Bears were defeated at Beaverton, 63-42.

Meantime, the Storm blew away Liberty by 32, 78-46.

Summit will host another playoff game when they greet 15th seed Barlow of Gresham Friday night.

A win sends summit to Portland one week from tonight to the 6A tournament, or elite-8 if you will, where they would meet either Roosevelt or North Medford.

Summit is 24-and-oh on the year!

Also Friday, the 5A playoffs are set and top ranked Redmond boys host Milwaukie.

The Panthers went unbeaten to win the I-M-C crown and are 19-5 overall.

On the girl’s side….the 6A playoffs tipoff first round action tonight where Mt. View travels to Oregon City and Bend is in north Portland to face Jefferson.

The class 5A playoffs are Saturday, and 3rd ranked crook county welcomes Thurston of Springfield, and #4 Ridgeview hosts la salle of Portland.

Also Saturday afternoon at 3:30 in Jefferson county, the #7 Madras girls team entertains Astoria to begin the 4A playoffs.

And the 1A State tournament begins today in Baker. Tomorrow, the 2A and 3A tournaments begin.
